We show the parts to our customers. Our owner doesn't want to incur the liability if we give the customers their parts back and they decide to use 'em and then sue us if something happens.

Here is another slant, if the customer paid for the parts (not warranty) the shop can not keep them and must give them back to the customer. By all rights, those parts are in the reg when it was brought it in and the customer OWNS them, as well as the parts that were installed (and paid for). If the shop keeps the parts they are stealing from the customer and if they distroy them on purpose before returning them to the customer they are willfully distroying the customers property, both of which are violations of the law. I pretty much demand all parts back from any service I have done, reguardless of what it is unless it is obvious the change has been made (tires for example).
You are so right....they might blow up if I put them on the trailer I pull at breakneck speed with my mower or heaven forbid I stack them to grow pototatoes in...they could fall over on me. What was I thinking!!!!!You can't take those old used tires home!! For Gods sake man you could kill yourself!!
