Solo at LBTS 9/20.
88F water temp :-] 15' vis
Dealing with a broken big toe and strong northern current, so kept it to the first reef. Sad to report a lot coral bleaching happening there.

Hi Desrat,

Has LBTS had a significant change in water temperature lately? I read that most coral bleaching is from a rapid change in water temp (either up or down) and that symbiotic bacteria are temp-range sensitive. Maybe, the coral you saw is switching bacteria to a strain that likes 88 degree water?

I hope so, I don't like reading about coral die offs!

I understand some of the reasons as you state, but admit , know squat about it to elaborate. I haven't noticed anything dramatic in temp changes, but I am there once a week to every two weeks. Best shore diving around So Flo is Broward county hands down.
I hope it is the latter "the coral you saw is switching bacteria to a strain that likes 88 degree water?"
I did poke around NOAA web site, but really find anything. Maybe others will chime in.

I saw more than a fair amount of bleaching in Key Largo on shallow sites this last weekend too. I'd imagine that coral at LBTS and the Keys are being impacted similarly.

To keep consistent with this thread.... I solo'ed on the Spiegel Grove in Key Largo on Saturday. Lots of current so I kept the majority of my dive to the somewhat shallow swim-throughs.

2 solo dives today at Casino Point (dive park), Catalina. Great conditions, 60-70 foot vis.

in september: multiple dives in puerto galera, and in south leyte. where i got bit by a trigger fish, through the wetsuit. twice. ouch. while my attention was focused on taking pictures. luckily it was on the knee, so drew blood but not much else. aborted the dive. no buddy (nobody) any where reasonably close to warn off the trigger fish.

October 26th - Blue Heron Bridge - Night Dive Solo - Water temp was 79 degrees at depth dove for 79 mins in a bathing suit while everyone else was in a full 3 mill or more - they thought I was crazy :D - but the water was so warm... Down for a business trip but squeezed in a dive...

I was finally able to get out on my own for some solo dives this past weekend here in Arizona. Temps are changing so our Lake (Lake Pleasant) is now definitely (for us) under winter diving conditions...drysuit for me. First dive to 66 feet for 53 minutes with a minimum temperature of 65 degrees...visibility was okay at about 15-20 feet; I got to hang out with a curious (and hungry) sunfish for about 5 minutes which was cool. Second dive to 71 feet for 41 minutes at 63 degrees; this time it was a big gray and blue (after lighting it up with my Dive Rite LX-20 light) catfish just hanging around the muck that I spent some time with. All in all a great day (sunny and about 82 degrees) with some relaxing and quiet solo diving.

Did my first "official" solo dive a few weeks ago. I say official because I've gone down alone but have always been surrounded by 10 - 12 other divers and have the Solo Course behind me now. Off the Jersey coast diving the Maurice Tracy. I was with 7 rebreather divers none of which I knew but they knew each other. I was the first one in, I only saw one other diver the entire time because of the flash on her camera. Enjoyed a 70 minute dive doin my own thing. When I got back on the boat it was just me the Capt and the crew, I was asked if I was going down again and said yes. Capt asked if I could make it a little shorter, which wasn't a problem as some nasty clouds were rolling in. After about a 45 minute interval I went down again. Didn't see anybody....was an amazing feeling being 70' down in the murky waters alone. Spent most of the dive hovering a foot off the bottom checking out small bits and shells. I did happen to find the lower jawbone of an eel with teeth intact...kinda cool...that dive was 40 minutes and I had the entire ocean to myself (kinda sorta)...didn't have to look over my shoulder unless I wanted to...When I got back on the boat everyone was there waiting on me....Solo is the way to go

I was in Bonaire in November for two weeks, with two different dive shop groups, on the Saturday between groups, at Buddy Dive, I did two dives below 40 meters, each just over an hour, sidemount, with deco tanks, cruise out, past the coral farm, down the reef, first dive slowly north, second slowly south, water about 27C/80f, viz about 30meters. beautiful, still, good coral, lots of fish, awesome dives alone.
