Location: Starfish Bay, Hen & Chicken Islands, New Zealand

A multisport day. Rod and line fishing, freediving/spearfishing and a SCUBA dive. Water was still cold at 15.5 degrees C and visibility was pretty awful at 5 metres. I was just about warm enough in my 7mm open cell wetsuit. The site consisted of a complex of small caverns which is where the crustaceans can be found. I saw a large number of red rock lobsters, some of them huge, but of course, all out of reach. I was lucky enough to come across a slipper lobster which will be dinner tomorrow night. Otherwise, the site was quite fishy in places. Unexpectedly came face-to-face with a large yellow moray which gave me a fright. They must be the ugliest of all moray species!
