Does anyone in New England know where I can find some horseshoe crabs in the next week or so? I do a marine invert. education program and would like to add some small critters to the presentation.

Thanks in advance,

Pete :06:

You missed horseshoe crab mating season by about a month.
Mid may to mid jun is when there are tons of the little rascals all over the place in RI, Kings beach, Fort Wetherill, Fort Adams, etc...
You can still find them around. I have spotted at least one each of my last three night dives. 2 at Fort Wetherill, one at Fort Adams.

There are a bunch in the inner harbor islands around Boston. Grape Island in particular was crawling with them a few weeks ago.

Also, Cohasset's outer harbor has a bunch. You just have to get out past the breakwall at high tide.

Also I've seen a few down in Green Harbor (southeastern mass) while at the beach. I always thought HSC perferred sandy bottoms (as for me I hate sand in my swim trunks) so I'd imagine divers searching for rocky bug filled seafloors don't come in contact with too many HSC.

~good luck and keep us posted

Coast Guard Beach at Cape May, NJ.

Hingham Harbor, west/north side of the bathing beach off of Route 3A. Look in or near the eel grass, they're EVERYWHERE.
