Gloves and reef... I believe in the monkey see monkey do.. James may be fine and never touch tease or molest with his gloves on..but lets face the facts - most divers on vacation (if wearing gloves) will be prone to touch the reef thus causing possible damage.
The mooring lines can be a bit rough or coverd in hydroids but most hands are tough enough to deal with the odd hydroid or strand of polypropolene. The water here is never colder than 78 so you do not need gloves for warmth. You should not be touching the reef or at least live reef so you do not need them to protect from the reef...so james why do need gloves while diving in cayman? Unless you're a really crappy diver with zero bouyancy of course.
Gloves aside - you sound like a jerk to me.

So james is your Scuba board name derived from the Grateful Dead..I would asume you are a fan... I believe Jerry would be quite disgusted by you. He was once quoted " the only time I don't need drugs to get a high is while scuba diving" or something to that effect. He was an avid diver and I am sure he would be upset by your attitude about no gloves...The law is there to keep divers from touching the reef and causing damage. So you might cut your finger it an't going to kill ya....
