Hi all, I won a trip to Dumaguete in the Philippines in a raffle. One of the critters I am looking to check off my list is a whale shark, and I've heard that this is a good spot to see them. Is there a "season" where it's best to see them, or is there a better season for general diving/weather? Through searching on the web I'm seeing dry season but getting varying results on when exactly that is. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I believe that the Whalesharks are at Oslob right through the year.

I can't recommend Oslob
It's known because it is relatively easy spotting the whale shark, but that comes with a price for the animal.

It is controversial because of the impact on the animals and the sustainability of the operation.
They practice feeding, and even have some nets on the exits of the bays to prevent escaping.
Also, lots of people swimming with them.

Oslob whale shark polemica

There are other respectful options for trying to see the wale shark.
It is not a winning bet you will see it, but that's because your going to the wild respectfully and try to encounter it there.

Hope you enjoy your trip and are lucky

1. To minimise even the slightest chance of typhoon, Jan - Apr would be the best. But Easter is NOT a good time to arrive/depart/travel in the country.
2. Oslob? Whole year round but need to decide whether the presentation is your cup of tea.
