Dec. & Jan. However even at the peak of their migration their numbers have been dwindling in the last few years. 15 years ago is was not uncommon to see 20-30 at a time. Now it is usually much smaller groups.

Whan is the best time to dive the northern sites to see the eagle rays?

FWIW: In Feb 2005 the dive shop I was with was sending 2 boats north early. I was on the second as the people from the first boat hadn't been before so they were supposed to be going first. Well they decided to sleep in a little and everyone from our group was ready so we got the first boat. We were in the water at about 6:40 first boat up north. Well about 10 minutes in they started coming....first 6 then 8,12,15, lost count at about 40. Just as we got on the boat and were heading back the 2nd boat was going in at the same spot we did. What did they see? 3 or 4.............Talk about pissed divers.......... not only because we saw that many but because we were laughing so hard. Now since then I think the big groups are gone but there are still a few year round rays in Cozumel. So my advice would be:
1) Whatever you do get up there first.
2) Do not go to Barracuda start at Cantarel or San Juan
3) If everyone stays off the wall a bit you may see a few but if anyone is flying
just off the wall they will scatter.
4) Late Jan and Feb I think are best times.

We did two dives up north last week and did not see any eagle rays...I was surprised and disappointed since every time I have dived up north in the past I had seen squadrons of them....oh well maybe next year, hopefully they will return...water temps were between 77-79 on my computer....maybe the waters are too warm :dontknow: but did see a few turtles up there...

I did a north dive the second week of January and saw none. Tat said, the current was really moving and it was amazing to see how far we had gone in the seventy minutes we were down. There is something pretty cool, as a fairly new diver, about spreading out your arms and legs like you are parachuting, getting perfectly neutrally bouyant, and just hauling ass in the current.

At about 9am on Feb.1 should be pretty good, don't ya think?

What time does your flight get in? I can pick you up, unless i'm diving. :mooner:
Hi Randy- My itinerary says: 1:17pm Westjet. Maybe I'll get a good tailwind. Thanks for the lift. I'll need to grag some gear I have stored at Scuba Repair, it's not really out of the way back.
O I'm so....:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::grinbandit::bounce2::bounce2::bounce2::drunks:
