Hello,

Was wondering when is the best time of year to snorkel with the Leopard sharks on Catalina? And where?
Been told the best spot is a cove next to the USC Research Center in Two Harbors. Haven't been over to Two Harbors yet.
Would like to take the wife and kids over to experience the Leopard sharks.

TIA Jeff

this past year, someone was conducting an experiment observing the sharks in the Big Fisherman Cove/USC location, so snorkeling was restricted. I don't know how long that will continue.

Get some canned tuna, dump the oil in the water, and feed the morays. They will actually come out of the water onto the rocks to get some. Like a snake. Watch your fingers!

DFC5343 where do you do this?

Get some canned tuna, dump the oil in the water, and feed the morays

Do you also do this in Cat harbor by the chamber?

I will be on Catalina next June the two harbor area (Cherry Valley specifically with a scout troop) and am looking for suggestions on activities. So far feeding Morays and snokeling with sharks sound like winners.

thanks for the tread.

DFC5343 once bubbled...

I think that practice is now being discouraged at WMSC.

Right at the dock on the right side. I can bet its discouraged because the chamber crew wants the limelite. Learned it then.

Isn't Cat harbor over on the back side of the island?

I could be wrong, I only lived there on my boat for one season while I worked for Doug B. working the night shift harbor patrol at the Isthmus. :D

Yes, pipedope, it is on the backside. It is behind Two Harbors. The chamber and WIES are located at Big Fisherman Cove, which is a marine reserve. Maybe the eels were in danger of becoming too fat to fit back in their holes...;)
