You are right Ted, I have had some nice dives in the big pond. Started early June up in Door County in Wisconsin and had a real nice weekend there. Highlights of that trip were the E.R. Williams (if that is what it is), an fairly intact schooner, and the Frank O' Connor, a 301' long wooden steamer. Great weather and great conditions. I thought I posted a report on that trip, but I am having a problem finding it. Also had a chance to visit the Prins Willen (the Willie) up by Milwaukee. Nice to dive that one later in the season when the water isn't 36°! Also went on the Wisconsin, which is in 120' of water, but I didn't get below about 115'. This time I was able to see one of the 1920's vintage cars that is in it's hold. Last weekend, I went on some "novice" dives to the Tacoma and the Material Service barge. Shallow in only about 30' feet of water. These are always good boats to dive, but the viz was only about 15 ft at best, and at the Material Service, the current was ripping! Never seen it so bad. That made it one of the more challenging dives I've had this year.
This weekend, I have a full day dive scheduled, not sure where yet. Maybe the Wells Burt or the Straits of Mackinac, the later boat purposely sunk for divers. The weekend after that, I'll be diving what I think is my favorite boat yet, the Northerner, outside of Port Washington, Wisconsin. A small two masted schooner that went down I believe in 1868. Almost perfect condition with a bowsprit in place and a figurehead. In 130' of water, it is a short dive for me, but worth it.
Get some dives in everyone!
