I was looking at the this first stage on ebay and I noticed the side port sticking out of the side of the Aqua Lung Conshelf regulator. And was wondering what it was for. I looked on the Aqua Lung website and it doesn't say anything about it.

It does say on the website that there is 1 HP port and 3 LP ports. but looking at the reg it self, there is 5 ports total including the "protruding" port. Other then that I cannot find any other info on the reg.

Does anyone know anything about these regs? If they are good, bad, good to a vintage diver (assuming it is vintage). The serial # is CBB0097 if that helps anyone.

Thanks alot for any info I can get on this reg.

EDIT : reg can be seen here

Link would help, not sure that I see on the current listings.

The original Conshelf regs had the same threading for both HP and LP ports. What you're seeing is most likely a step-up adapter to allow the connection of a "current" HP hose.

Are HP or LP ports reverse threaded? I see little lines on the protruding port like the ones on a cutting torch set-up (if anyone is familiar with them) that I am assumming is for a reverse thread indication.

Without a picture it is hard to tell, but my guess is that you are seen an adapter. Probably a HP adapter to attach a modern 7/16” HP hoses to a vintage 3/8” HP port. In the 70’s and before all the ports (both HP and LP) were 3/8”. You had to pay attention were you attached your accessories.

The Conshelf is a great regulator. It has been in production for over 35 years. It is still in production basically unchanged. Several of the other Aqua Lung regulators are based on the same internal parts (Titan and Legend).

I have and still dive with an old Conshelf. It's my 'teaching in the pool' reg. Bulletproof. The protrusion is indeed an adaptor to make a modern HP hose fit.

The little lines indicate which adapter it is. There are numerous thread sizes as the line indicates it is a 3/8 to 7/16 I believe. If I got it backwards then shoot me. You will notice in any case if you got to Diverite Express under adpaters exactly what you are likely seeing on the first stage and notice the line or lack of a line in the adapters. I have used such adapters for years and NEVER had any problem with them---EVER. Install it and leave it be and it is bullet proof. Note also the HP adapter has a smaller orifice, if you use these in a circumstance for supporting LP then you may need to drill out the orifice. Such a circumstance would be using a HP swivel on a LP port to position a regulator hose straight down. These HP swivels are made for 3,500 psi and therefore are SOLID reliable at IP pressures. N
