Hi,

I am a Dutch diver who is planning to come go 2 Cozumel next saterday and i am orientating for a diveschool. We are staying at the Reef Club

I heard a lot of storys from dutch divers who had to end there dives with 100 bar in there 12l tanks because on cozumel the dive with only with divetabels. I am an expierenced diver and have my own divecomputer. What is the normal policy on the dive schools on Cozumel.?? Can we (me and my dutch budy) dive within the save limits of our own divecomputer?

And if there are different policy's, what diveschool let you use a divecomputer to plan and dive your dive?

We Europeans are used to dive in cold dark water so the waters of Cozumel must be heaven for us. ;)

Regards

And sorry for my bad english

I have always dived with a computer in Coz and on the advanced dives, its required. How long you stay down is usually determined by the Divemaster evaluating your skill level....you shouldn't have any problems.

However, I have always dived on the small boats with a group of divers of similar skill levels. If you are on a boat with new divers who go through their air quickly, you might be required to end your dive with 100 bar left. Cozumel is drift diving and more often that not, everyone is required to end the dive at the same time -- meaning the duration of the dive will be set by the heaviest air consumer.

Good luck.

I have no idea what their policy is but if you know how to use the dive tables then you shouldn't be ending your dives on 100 bar! The computer will give you more time compared to the regular tables so if they make you use the tables you are going to have less in the water especially on subsequent dives. Anyway, we dive around New York and I am slightly envious of you diving in good visibility. Have a great vacation and safe diving!! I guess it is because I am European also that I am diving in cold dark waters also. ;)

My experience is like Otters, we chartered with small boats, the divemaster basiclly let us do what we wanted, moving to more advanced dives each day. We all used computers.

We all came up at different times though.

TT ;)

Depends entirely on who you are diving with. Reef Club's in-house dive op is Sand Dollar. They are one of the more conservative ops on the island and most experienced divers are not happy with their allowed bottom times. Other operators will pick you up at the reef club dock (bring your walking shoes, it's a couple hundred meters north of reef club). Many of those will let you set your own limits.

Enjoy.

If you have not yet commited to a dive op, I recommend you consider Papa Hog's. They are a very accommodating operation with a large fleet of small boats so they are usually available last minute.

Thanks guys for all the info.

Its good to know that Sanddollars is really conservative, because i like save diving but i don't want to trow away my money. Now i have the option to choose a diveschool and otherwise i would have choosen sanddollars.

I am going to look at papahog. Any other ideas??

Thanks, well here in the Netherlands visibility is always max 1 meter when you dive in the great lakes. Temperatures can go from 23 C on the surface to 10 C on the bottom (12 meters). I dont know how New York is but i wish i had good diving conditions the whole year here .

I have never heard of that, everyone I've seen use computers. Remember, most of these divers, are summer divers. They forgot how to use tables right after the class. In most drift dives, the DM will surface the group when the first diver has 700psi. Keeps the group together...........

Is that addressed toward Sand Dollar or Coz in general? If you mean in general, you are mistaken. Most small boat ops will send up buddy pairs as they run low on air.

I stayed at Reef Club last November and dove with Sand Dollar sports. Everyone in our group used computers and were asked to surface with 700psi in our tanks.
