It's been said before - it is mostly personal preference. My wife and I have done both, at Bellafonte (Belnem) with a pier and Tropicana Fun without. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

We never dove the private pier at Bellafonte, though I snorkeled it. The water is accessed by a ladder, which is OK in singles. The place is just so nice that it feels a little wierd dragging scuba equipment around. It was pretty far from a dive shop, but that doesn't really matter on Bonaire. We used Tropical Divers up by Divi, which was a 100% DIN shop when we were there.

From Tropicana Fun, it is a three (short, East to West) block walk to Dive Friends/Yellow Sub, who have a respectable beach entry and a pier for their boat trips. Get a tank, walk across the street. From there, you're right in the harbor, and we walked into town nightly.

I think that we will go for either a pool with some lounge chairs or waterfront on this trip, but the price goes up a good bit for either.

Dive shop hours for getting fresh tanks is the most important thing IMHO for Bonaire, and it can be sketchy between Christmas and New Years when I always go.

Have fun!

3 more days til I leave.... I mentally checked out today at lunch.

Fun note, a Delta Amex gets you rental insurance for like 20 bucks a rental, even on trucks. Cheaper than the 120 they charge you on Bonaire.

Still trying to figure out which restaurants to grace with my presence. The Italian one, the Rib joint... hmmm.... the French one? The Patagonian Steak house?

Someone somewhere on some forum (don't think it was this one), recommended getting cold cuts from Eli's Deli and bread from some asian market for making lunches with. I haven't the foggiest what the market was though.

I love Eli Deli! It is a bit expensive, but the quality is second to none on the island. You can also get American brand cold cuts at Cultimara (Ham, Salami, Bologna, etc) pre packaged at Cultimara. They also have great bread as well. The supermarket just around the corner from us carries American cold cuts, as well as Dutch cold cuts and local bakery made bread as well.
