what's the current feeling on Miflex hoses - some years on from the recall, etc.

I use Miflex for everything except my long hose.

I'm about to purchase a 2 in 1 spg/depth pressure console that comes with a 36 inch milflex hose. Wandering if at 36 inches these hoses do float too much possibly causing entanglement hazards? Thanks.

Why so long a hose? It’s certainly going to bow out.

That's the hose it comes with. Was thinking may it would be possible to clip the top part to a shoulder strap d ring and the bottom part to a hip d ring with a retractor to tighten the slack.

After serial failures, all that remain of my Myflex collection, are a few LP inflator hoses . . .

What sort of failure and how long did they last? I'm your average rec diver hoping to get in 35-40 dives a year over a period of 2-3 weeks. Warm water primarily in the Caribbean, Mexico, and FL. Reefs, wrecks, some deep blue, with maybe 2 cold water (50-55 degree w/7mm) dives a year. Most challenging environment would be southeast Asia liveaboard which I'm planning in the next couple of years. Will probably dive cenotes at some point. The wrecks and cenotes are the reason I was wandering about the 36 inch possibly becoming a hazard.

The average sized person uses 24" hose for the SPG. Get a shorter hose.

The lion's share lasted less than a year -- replaced after leaking fittings (poorly crimped, apparently from a bad batch) on either end; or else, wholesale rupture upon regular pressurization at or slightly beyond 250 bar (3600 psi).

They were an interesting idea, still well stocked, pricey, and flogged by the local dive shops; but I know of no one who depends upon them, for commercial use as do I, who have kept them . . .

Well, lol, we are all different. I have had MiFlex hoses and "other" brand (DGX and Piranha) for years with no issues. The recall problem was long ago remedied. For my travel regulators I find that for a standard set of hoses (40 primary/22 necklaced/20 BC LP and a 30 spg), the difference in weight between rubber hoses and the braided flex hoses is about 6 to 8 ounces, as much as 10 to 12 for a 60/72 set. I usually travel with two reg sets. That is about one pound in my bag. That is a lot to me but perhaps not for others. I have been using mostly the DGX and Piranah now because they are inexpensive and do well. I replace hoses on a regular basis, no more than 5 years be they rubber, Miflex, braided or whatever.

For doubles I am okay with a 24 inches spg hose but for singles I use a 30 inches hose for my spg so that I can pull it up into bifocal range. It lays pretty flat and does not bow clipped to my hip D ring.
