I usually dive with the same bunch of people so this has not come up until recently.
I am NAUI certified but nowhere on my card does it list my "number" for filling out my buddies dive logs.

I asked a NAUI instructor who told me that it was my social security number.
1. I am not giving strangers my name and SS just cuz we dove together.
2. That guys shop is since defunct.

Anyone able to help me with this?

I have three NAUI tech cards and the only number they have on them is the instructor number. I also checked the replacement form on their website and it doesn't ask you for any kind of number (except the instructor number). I would just put down your name and NAUI for cert agency/number.

NAUI no longer issues a number except for instructors.

I just put "NAUI" in the space provided, and it works.

I was not aware they (NAUI) ever issued numbers to individuals (other then instructors), I just usually write down "PIN" if asked on a waiver. I am not really sure it is all that critical. If you are diving at a resort, or off a dive boat, many (but not all) have dive stamps you can use in your log as another verification.

Although I do keep a hard dive log, I have met many divers who don't, some just upload it into their computer from the dive computer and keep track of it that way..

Wow ... is this something that PADI actually does right?! Ignore the fact that I have like 10 different numbers because I get a different one for each cert. But if you take your highest main certification (OW/AOW/Rescue/MSD), at least you have a unique but yet non-meaningful (i.e. not SS#) number to use to uniquely identify yourself.

Don't fret the numbers, this isn't evidence collection. It's just someone's vision of what belongs in a dive log. I'd leave it blank. Putting "SS#" is OK.

Only if you believe you need a bunch of extra numbers.

Why would you ignore that? It's ridiculous.

What's its purpose?
