Walter:
Why would you ignore that? It's ridiculous.

They're huge numbers too. You could never remember any of them. I have 2 different numbers from TDI, which I think is odd because they are a small agency.

I am OW & AOW Padi - a LONG time ago, so long that the card is delaminating. I am NAUI Rescue cert so I use that with a note NAUI SSN. It's a lot easier than trying to remember an 11 digit number that I can't read anymore.

I find it amusing that most places automatically assume that all divers have a number.

ClayJar:
I think next time someone asks me for my number on a form, I'll just write Φ.

(That's upper-case phi, in case anyone's wondering. It's one of my favorite numbers, although pi and e are more well-known.)
Have you considered adding all the numbers up and dividing by the number of cards.. giving you a "representivie" number?

I just use the last 4 of my S.S. number. Never had a problem.

erparamedic:
Clay, dude... you crack me up! Only you would know those numbers! I sure don't know 'em! Though I do vaguely remember something about "pi" when I was in high school.... isn't it something like 3.14.... or is it 7.14.....? I'll stick to med math/dose and drip rate calculations... it's easy.;)

Sorry for the hijack.:blinking: Now, back to the regularly scheduled program...

I do like your phone number idea in place of the cert number in log books! That's a good suggestion!:)

Well, for PADI, that'd give a mathematically trivial result. As the numbers are serial numbers (per course), halving the number assigned to a diver's brand new certification will give you the average number over all the divers up to that point.

Well, 3.14159265358979323846... (that's all I bothered learning of the non-repeating, non-terminating irrational number that is pi. :D)

Why does a certification card need a number anyways:confused: All the card signifies is that a person has been trained to dive.

Why does a card need a number? Why does a log need a signature? Um...

The answer, my friend, is... er... blowing in the wind?

erparamedic:
If I am asked to sign a logbook for a buddy, I do so, and will generally only list my number if I know the person is anal about their logging (Uh, hum... Trucker Girl ;)). Now, if I've written my number in their book before, I'm likely to tell them to look it up. :)

You are sooooo busted! I resemble that remark!

I just wanted to make sure you had a C-card... I mean, after seeing you dive and all... that's terrible! I'm j/k! erparamedic is a great diver!
