I've been reading threads tonight for about 3 hours and have come to the conclusion that I don't know what most of the accronyms are. Could Scubaboard make a basic list of what: lcd btw tds lol gue and others mean. It would make reading more interesting and understandable to us true dummies. Thanks for any help in getting these listed somewhere for all of us to mmrf (make more reader friendly)

Good Suggestion, Ga Diver. This would be especially useful for the New 2 Scuba forum.

The lists recommended by Tech Admin and Dive-aholic are useful. Here are a few more:
http://www.ukdivers.com/info/acronyms.asp
This one is dive related and similar to, but longer than, the one Tech Admin pointed to. Both have some acronyms the other doesn’t.

Similarly, another email-/chat-room-related one is at http://www.netlingo.com/emailsh.cfm

None of the above defines all the examples you gave, so here are some they seem to have skipped:
lcd – liquid crystal display ?
gue – Global Underwater Explorers . They teach DIR (doing it right)

Another you didn’t mention that I see a lot is LDS (local dive shop).
I’ve also seen h/h – his/her

But tds - ???

when ppl are talking about buying equipment they say they either buy at the LDS or LP, what does the LP stand for?? it is usually stated that the prices are cheaper at LP!

There are two different types of acronyms you will need to learn. Diving ones and online ones.

This thread recently talked about diving ones

http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ne...ering-diving/220246-shorthand-dive-terms.html

Online ones you just need to learn as you go but some of the links already provided should help. One thing I did (for the diving terms as I already knew most of the online acronyms) was to google them in "quotes." Like "DIR" or "BP/W" More often than not it will pop right up. It may seem a bit tideous at first, but before long you'll know them all and won't have to constantly have a google window open.
