This question is for all the neoprene dry suit divers out there. What do you wear under your suit? Can you give me some idea about what temp water u usuallly dive in, and whether your suit is crushed neoprene or not. Do you think the crushed makes a difference in insulation? Thanks for the information.

- a tri-lam diver wondering if there is a better way....

Water temps will dictate what's under my 1/4" Unisuit. Anything from shorts & t-shirt for warm (65ºf+) on down to just about everything for water down to 28ºf.
Compressed & crushed neoprene require more undies, consider crushed neo needing same as a laminate shell

I have 4mm crushed neopren dry suit from Aqua3.
20 degree C and less.
Under -Bear CF 200 extreme

4mm crushed neoprene with 200 g polartec undersuit in water from 14°C and down to 0°C.

Never, ever will I dive again without an undersuit and socks. Whew, it stinks when you sweat.

Wear a 100g flectalon in 51-53 degree water. The air temps dropping lately I'm wearing some Misty Mountain fleece top and bottoms under the ug but it's sure warm in the water.

I have a DUI CNSe. I normally wear polartec 100 pants and change fleece tops depending on water temp. My first layer is always the wicking layer (capilene, or similiar) then the fleece tops. Avoid cotton materials if possible.

hi bigredbill, sounds like you might be chilly and lookin for some warmth so here's what i have been using lately when the water temp drops below 55 or so. Non-crushed neoprene drysuit (7mm O'neil) then depending on the temp.work up from nothing to a full dive skin then add a full polartech when there's ice on the water. The regular neoprene is very warm, too warm for nicer weather thats when i go back to a wetsuit . I find i can use the same diveskin and polartech to layer-up under my wetsuit as temps dictate. What I also like about the neoprene drysuit are the neoprene seals they may not seal absolutely perfect so you can get damp sometimes but they will never tear wide open like latex can(I am rough on equipment) you also need more lead to sink the non-crushed suits but they will keep you warm even if you get wet. No system is perfect but i hope this gives you some ideas on other options. Also FYI I have been using a Henderson Hyper-Stretch Titanium for my wetsuit this year and it is the most comfortable one i have ever had, the outer material is not as tough as most others, but the comfort is well worth it as it will layer over anything with ease! Don't know if its a better way, but its another way! Dive safe and have fun!
