What would you do if your computer died?

If you are safely getting more BT with tables and shortcuts then you probably need a better (more liberal) computer.

It was an Oceanic VT3. I havent had a vast range of experiences with dive computers, but others tell me Oceanic computers are on the liberal side already.

You are a recreational diver, minimal (if any) deco. Battery craps, you surface.

You ascend carefully and throw in a 3 min hang at 15 -20' just for fun.

That is about as liberal as they come. If you are getting more bottom time using shortcuts, you may be cutting further into a safety margin than you think.

If my dive computer died, I'd just switch to using the one on my other wrist. Then I'd pull out its backup.
It's happened a few times...
These things do break, and I cannot be bothered worrying about such at some remote location in a foreign country.

Tech divers always have 2 computers and a detailed written deco schedule on deco dives. One on the slate, one in the wet notes.

I dive with 2 computers and have used the back up once when the primary was in gage mode and senced wet probe.

I have used my back-up computer, which is clipped to my BC when I forgot my main computer for one morning dive. My backup is always with me on every dive. It wouldn't do me any good otherwise. The rest of the trip went just fine, no further problems.

I have a Oceanic BUD. It comes with a clip. I just clip it to the chest d-ring and leave it there for the dive trip. It is designed to be a back up. B.ack U.p D.evice.

You can buy it online from the usual places for <$200. I bought it from my LDS for the same price as online. It is nitrox compatible and turns out to be a pretty nice computer. It is 1 button and pretty basic but it serves the purpose. My main computer is also Oceanic and can run the DSAT or Z+ algorithym so it is pretty adaptable when comparing it to most other brands of computers.

That's what I have. I am sure there are others that could be adapted for use as a backup. No matter what you get for a backup, be sure to check/replace the batter in it before going on a vacation.
