Rather than deal with din tanks, I simply find it easier to pack my adapter and use that instead

Dive friends bonaire. Yellow sub had some but we sometimes had to go to their "tech" location a bit further south (By Windsock) for DIN tanks. The boat always had them for us when we did boat diving.

I have been the past two winters. Once with 2 dive buddies, and earlier this year with the family. We like March since the weather up here is ice cold I have not seen any funny business with regards to the trucks and theft. We have accidentally left cash under the floor matts, a camera in the back seat once, etc. I wouldn't do that regularly, but it's not like the first time you do it accidentally it's going to simply vanish. The first trip we stayed at the all inclusive plaza (which was fine, food was 'ok'). The second time we ate out all week around town and found lots of good places. I prefer to rent a condo as we did the last time, eat out, and get just my tanks at the plaza in a self service fashion. It works great for us! Definitely a nice relaxing place to spend some time and dive.

I would be afraid of the possibility of someone hiding in the bushes, watching.

One should probably not put their electronic ignition key for the rental in their swimsuit pocket, and then do two 60 minute dives.
Do not ask.

And I knew better, but I had to run back to the vehicle to fetch something at the last second, and forgot.

Note: Rental agencies do not like hearing you have done this.

I kind of have no sympathy for the agency though. Key fobs for a bonaire rental truck are an incredibly stupid idea.

In this case I was in FL, and not Bonaire.

It is ironic, because had it been Bonaire I would have been far more careful, and on top of the scenario, but on a FL boat dive I let my guard down.

We were fairly fortunate and had no issues when we were there a few weeks ago. We didn't do very remote sites, except for Tolo (Ol` Blue). We also got cheap sunglasses and towels. I actually left my DIN cap/mesh bag, cheap sandals, cheap sunglasses in the bed and never had an issue. Windows always down and car unlocked. Aside from that, the car key, room key, DL, money, etc. went into my wifey's plastic dry box which was in her BCD pocket (She wouldn't clip it as well, stubborn women).

What kind of plastic dry box does she use? Does it hold down to 120' depth?

I'm looking for a small dry box to put my PLB1 (3"x2"x 1.5")

That's a good idea, but what kind of dive light that can fit PLB1 (3"x2"X1.5")?
