It happens. I've yet to have that happen to me. Most places have plenty of distractions should it happen to me. In fact, most places have plenty of rental gear too! Yeah, I like my own gear, so I'd probably just occupy myself with local flora, fauna, and geology.
I didn’t travel all that way to walk around in the jungle, size 15 feet reduces the chance of rental fins, I had to use a jacket b/c but this is why my reg, computer and a pair of fins were in my carry on.

We're all different and so have varying needs and expectations. I like jungles if I have enough DEET.

Hope this helps someone with the new policies, particularly with United.

i must say i am bewildered why an airline would allow this as a "personal item". but i guess if it fits, it fits. lol

i cant say i ever looked at the personal item sizing on any flight. i have always been told it is a small bag, purse, or small backpack.

i have been using the same "carry on" suitcase for probably 20 years and never have any issues.

if we travel with gear, we always put most of the gear in a semi hard shell suit case. it holds mine and the wifes. then i carry a small backpack with regs and computers in it along with any small personal items like my headphones etc. my carry one only has clothes in it. she then brings her large purse along with her carry one (same as mine).

on a long trip we would then have a second semi hard suit case for the rest.

never saw any need to try and carry on all our dive gear. i dont see the point. if our gear went missing, i am sure we would have it the next day or so.

i have found that being 6'4" and 260 pounds makes my slightly oversized duffel backpack look tiny when going through the gate. so long as they don't turn around and look. and it always fits in the overhead. i just avoid united with carry ons.

Not enough DEET to keep the bullets away! It ended just as I went off to college.

And what's with the word 'deplane'??? We don't deboat or detaxi.
I think it originated from that Tatoo guy on Fantasy Island.

Now the real fun part is who on here DOESN'T know Fantasy Island. Man, we waited all week to see the episode.
