While a 30# should float your rig, I like the 40# because it gives me a little extra lift if I need it in an emergency. I don't see any downside to the larger wing: Setting Oxycheq 30# and 40# wings next to each other, the 40# is less than an inch wider than the 30#.

I was considering halcyon and hollis a lot at first, but after reading tons of reviews and posts on scubaboard, and checking manufacturing processes of other companies and comparing costs - I decided on the Oxycheq Mach 5 Extreme wing, Dive Rite bp, and DR basic harness.

How did you check their manufacturing processes? Very few dive equipment manufacturers make their own gear ... Oxycheq certainly doesn't. Like most companies selling dive equipment, they contract with other companies (usually in countries like China, where laborers don't get paid very much) to make gear to their specifications ... or to put just rebrand equipment the company already makes, often for several dive equipment suppliers.

The Mach V is a fine performing wing ... but I would be surprised if you could even identify who made it, much less how it was made.

NOOB question: What is a wing?

Its basically an air bladder you attach to a metal backplate that you wear (using a harness of some sort). It is similar to a back inflate BC, but is modular.
