A good hooker will cost ya more than that reg set. I'd say go dive together for a weekend on a nice charter boat and pickup the tab.

Good idea. Since brother does not know what he really paid for it its hard to come up with a good number. This avoids that issue gives you guys some good time together, which is worth a lot in itself above the cost of the charter boat.

I have a brother that does the same for me.... I'd find out what what he wants to purchase next for his scuba ventures and suprise him with it.

That's the way to do it. Saying thank you with another gift (or better yet a new toy to play with) is the way to go.

My brother-in-law is quick to help me with things (he at one time was a plumber and he is always great about being my extra set of hands).

I know if I give him money for his help, he'll just buy cigarrettes and booze. So instead I get him stuff that he would never buy himself. One summer he got a Thank you gift of a new Nike Sumo Driver, this summer I paid for his OW PADI certification. He was more appreciative of that then me giving him a few hundred bucks. I enjoy that he uses both thank you gifts.

I was wondering if you are looking to pay him for what the equipment may have been worth then (2007) or what it is worth now. From one poster, it looks as if the equipment may have retailed for about $1000 or so. If it was new then but an older model, then I don't think half the retail would be unreasonable. Maybe $500 with a little "brotherly loved" factored in.

If you are looking to see the value now, I found this link:

It's not your exact same system but not too far off either. It looks like this ended up being sold for maybe $375 or so. But your system is a step-up from this overall.

So if it were me, I think I could feel good offering somewhere between $400 and $500 for it.
