What should I pay?

About 3 yrs ago, my brother was nice enough to "gift" me with some Scubapro gear after I got certified. This was all new stuff that he had as a spare set. This wasn't the latest stuff at the time but again new and unused. Now 3 years later, I want to pay him for the gear he's let me use. While I research this on my own to come up with a fair offer to him, I thought I would post something on SB to get some opinions on what I should offer. Here's the list of items.

SP R380 2nd stage (used as Octo)
SP600 2nd stage with MK20 1st stage (really like this combo)
SP analog spg/depth gauge

I suspect I'll be able to negotiate a "brother's discount" but I'd like to come up with a number prior to that talk. Any ideas on what's fair for this gear if I had purchased it back in 07?

check to see what it's going for on Leisure Pro. Since it was new, that might be a good place to start as a price basis. maybe discount a little from there.

I have a brother that does the same for me. He just gave me a perfect computer because he wanted to upgrade. I'd find out what what he wants to purchase next for his scuba ventures and suprise him with it. My brother is the greatest, sounds like yours is too.
But if your looking for a monatary value, I just bought a nib sp16 with r390 and Cressi spg for $122.50 for my "new again" dive buddy.

I sort of like Jim's idea, but if that doesn't work for you, why not just ask him how much he paid for it and simply let him know that you'd like to reimburse him. The "Brother Discount" is the money you saved on interest and the use of the gear. Additionally, I would suggest paying for a charter trip or something similar.

Yeah don't know what he paid cause it turns out he got it in trade from a roommate who owed him rent. I don't think he remembers what the amount was that the roommate owed him......this was a while back.

I guess I was thinking there were folks on here that had these numbers handy but definitely appreciate the responses.

A good hooker will cost ya more than that reg set. I'd say go dive together for a weekend on a nice charter boat and pickup the tab.

Thanks for the feedback, Jim. I like those numbers if I was going to pay them but they seem low to me if this stuff cost maybe a $900-$1000 for all brand new?? I definitely want to be fair in my offer.....this isn't me trying to barter at a garage sale....

Since you're asking '07 prices, these are the retail prices from the 2007 ScubaPro catalog on the then equivalent "new" SP gear:

R190 Octopus - $144
S600/MK25 Reg - $665
SP 2-gauge Console - $196

Because it was new/un-used "older" model gear when you got it, I think if you knocked about 20-25% off retail, you'd be in the ballpark of what you would have paid in '07.
