Sharks die in agony by drowning and bloodloss after their fins are chopped off and they are tossed back into the ocean.

Add to the list of restaurants in the Philippines who serve sharks fin. That way, by not eating or patronizing the restaurant (as a protest) will hopefully help cut down the demand or at least help you educate people on the gruesome practice this vicious "delicacy" entails.

I will start:

Mr. Choi - spotted with branches in Robinsons Galleria and Manila.

HAPPY PALACE at The Collective in Malugay St., San Antonio Vill.
Makati City serves sharks fin siomai. 4 pieces of this siomia costs Php120.They also serve Shark's Fin Mami for Php 145.

You're opening a whole political/psychological battleground on the effects of repression, censorship, and communism here. We should probably leave nationality out of it and just agree that there are groups and individuals that are not concerned about conservation of species. People are generally products of their environment and sharks rank very low on the daily concerns of many of Earth's residents. The ability to worry about the well-being of other species than ourselves certainly identifies us as members of the upper 10% of the world's socio-economic scale. I have been been immersed in several cultures that struggle with personal and familial survival daily and could care less about sharks or any other animals. Please retort as I am always open to learning from differing viewpoints.

Why ignore nationality? It is at the root of the cultural changes that will have to be made if sharks are to have any chance at survival. When it comes to sharks, what is decimating their numbers is demand for their fins, to be used in shark's fin soup. And the overwhelming majority of this demand comes from ethnic Chinese. That is an objective fact.
 
There are at least 1.3 billion Chinese in the world if they all eat shark fin, there shouldn't be any shark left yrs ago. Nearly all the fins have to be IMPORTED from somewhere eg. Norway, Spain etc etc. If all those countries banning shark fin finning, problem solved.
Japanese love Blue Fin tuna and ....
Some people love to sniff certain white powder up their nostrils so blame the Columbians for the export and the poor Bolivian farmers for growing them.
The poor farmers at Goldern Triangle and Afganistan for cultivating poppy.

Supply and demand. Money comes first.

And how about commerical whaling??

Aphrodisiac daw! If people have to eat, drink or wear a weird animal part to get an erection, they must be that desperate. But isn't that the reason why Viagra was invented?! More science and less voodoo superstition please.

The next reason is to show off their affluence. Since the asian countries are prospering, more people can now afford to order these rare delicacies or buy that tiger pelt terno. Nagyayabang for short. If that's the case, they should just tattoo their net worth in their foreheads.

Expect more blood to be spilled. So, any opportunity to influence people's decisions, grab it. It might just save an entire species.

What I'm pointing out is that there are a large portion of HUMANS on the Earth that can barely survive and because of that don't come close to thinking about the conservation of another species. If you are able to be concerned about another species besides Homo Sapien, you are better provided for than many of the world's residents. I totally support awareness of the earth and its various inhabitants, animal and human, but we have to face the fact that many of the Earth's human residents exists in survival mode and not Best Buy mode. If you don't understand this, you have probably never been in an impovrished, war-torn country. These places exist and are much different from the USA.

Are you awared that El Nido also export bird's nest to the highest bidders? Harvesting the nests are actually the livelihood for many locals.
You should try to petition the local barangay captain to ban the harvesting. Good luck.
