well, I'm starting to lean more and more heavily to going the Apeks route for many reasons.

Looking at the ATX/TX50 for the primary, and a ATX/TX40 for backup, or dual ATX/TX40's with a DST first stage (rather have the DS4, but proving harder to find)

I called LP and aside from not being able to hear 75% of what the guy said, I was left just about as clueless. I take it if they don't have a product listed they can't get it?

That was dumb, I inquired about getting what I wanted, and apparently they can't get what they don't list :(

I esspecially don't really want one of the bright orange second stages hanging around my neck. IF I HAD to have a yellow 2nd stage which BTW glows in the dark, I would rather it be the primary since that is the one I donate, no reason to have the backup easily seen if it's hose is to short to donate.

In which case the best set up they had would be to buy a TX40 Regulator (apprently a blue face on it, which I like) then an ATX50 second stage for backup (although the ATX50 sounds like a good backup due to the cracking pressure adjustment, you could make it really high so as not to free flow while swimming, and lighten it when/if you needed to use it, but why have the nicer reg as backup)

The other problem was it seems LP doesn't have them in DIN fitting, they could SELL me the DIN conversion kit, but that would mean I'd have to goto a dive shop and PAY to get the work done, so I'm out MORE money. Though not a big issue as I don't see the need for DIN for a while, and buying a DIN reg I'd have to buy the Yoke adapter, so it really in a way saves me money, as I don't need to do the DIN conversion yet, or use DIN, so I could just go with Yoke until I need DIN.

Dive INN also had a decent set-up with the DST first stage, and dual ATX40's for second stages (one blue, one yellow in the picture) for $358. Of course LP would be a better deal, with a nicer primary second stage, but DiveINN has the DIN reg available.

Well we will see what happens I guess. I was not thoroughly impressed with LP just because I couldn't hear a word the guy said, and of the seemingly lack of flexibilty, however I understand they have what they have (many catalog/online shops don't do special orders) and I just got a bad rep or connection.

Yea and tonight is the 2nd time in the last 4 wks LP has sent me wrong things...I'm thinking they must have a new guy in their warehouse or something.

Last month they sent a BC instead of a regulator, and today they send a LP BC hose instead of a LP regulator hose.

I'm so sorry for you guys that your online scuba shopping experience wasnt all you wanted it to be...

Better luck next time...

Or the time after that...

OR maybe the time after that....

OR, well, they will get it right sometime... right???

Makes you think about going back to your LDS, huh???

The trials and tribulations of buying LIFE SUPPORT EQUIPMENT ONLINE...

I have no pity for any of you.

Sorry Chuck,
But even on its WORST day, LP is better than ANY of my LDS's.

I could go on all day about the sales games, LDS's selling gear at full MSRP all day, about shop 'A' badmouthing shop 'B' and on on on.

And, lets not forget the fact that I have about $4000 worth of scuba gear that would have cost me twice that at my LDS - not to mention that the selection would be far more limited.

Sorry, but on that note - you'd never convince ME to go back to a LDS.

And I'm been to LOTS of them.

After thinking I had 'seen it all' from almost 2 decades of being in the sales field, I can honestly say that I *DIDN'T* when I got into scuba and saw all the games, BS, and otherwise that goes on in many, not all, LDS shops. From this guy badmouthing that guy because he sells different brands then he does, is poor salesmanship at best, and a disservice to newbie’s at worst.

Fact is folks, if brand A's regs were SO dangerous and lousy, than divers would simply be getting killed all over the place, and lawsuits would be SO prevalent that the manufacturer couldn't stay in business very long.

Just browse thru Rodale's FALL 2002 Big Regulator Test and you'll find that many of the Apek's, SP's, Aqua Lungs, Oceanic and Mares regs ALL tested in the HIGH 20's for scores (20 is a perfect score).

Fact is, MOST regs today work well, minus some design differences, composition of parts, complexity, warranty, etc.

But the fact remains, is that most LDS's I have found, are only interested in:

A) Selling a guy stuff that HE stocks, and brands HE represents

B) Sell at inflated prices making this into a 'wealthy mans sport' out of the reach of middle class folks

C) Have BS a mile long

D) Are only concerning with subsidizing their monthly scuba trips to Couzemel or Truk

For example - my LDS is selling a computer for almost twice what LP sells it for. So yea, I'll deal with LP's mess up's here and there - its STILL cheaper than a LDS'.

Sorry, but you won't convince me about the worthiness of LDS's. I've seen it all already...which has motivated ME to repair my own regs and purchase a garage filling station.

Scoobie I agree with you as far as the BS and the hiked up LDS prices. But, I think we need LDS's, where are we gonna go for fills if they close down? Send tanks to LP for fills? LOL;)

Seems like I touched a nerve there...

FIrst of all, not all LDS are made the same...

ANyways, im not tryin to convince you to come back to your LDS, you seem to have made your mind up long ago to shop online. Im just sayin that people like you shouldnt be allowed to WHINE about the mess ups at LP. Thats what you chose (The funny thing is that you only care about price, and not about service or customer relations)... Deal with it.

So if a mess-up occurs at your LDS, it's to be expected that you will not complain, because that's what you chose, correct?

LUBOLD8431,
No, whining is when you pay double for an item, like I have in the past, at a LDS. For instance, a dive computer that sells for $325 from an LDS that I bought for $180 at LP. Now THATS whining!

LUBOLD8431
Dude I'm on your side on this one. Sorry Scoobie. LP has not one competent able bodied scuba knowlegable person in the whole store. I'd much rather buy from DIVER'S not people selling a product just to make money. Not to say that every LDS is going to make every difference in the world when it comes to problems. I've seen the so called service tech that LP employs. I've been there many times. It's a total joke. I know I wouldn't trust him to work on my gear. And unfortunatly I'm not so inclined to do so myself so like I said before I'd much rather take advise and the know how from someone who dives. Not just some clown selling Scuba gear. And I' don't mean to offend anyone who feels differently...
