Hello!
I am considering on taking another step closer to completing my equipment and later, embarking on my first tech course. I have a Halcyon Explorer with a 40lb wing and STA, which I have used rather successfully with singles, but I'd like to get to know doubles. Since this is an all new configuration for me, I'd like to know a little more about the regulator configuration needed. So what I'm looking for is two regulators I can use with air, up to EAN40, and later TX. I've read about the Apeks XTX series and the 200's seem nice, but pretty expensive. Also, what is the difference between them, and the ATX series? (Also ... the XTX40 seems very similar to the 100/200?)

What do I need? 2 first and 2 second stages? Does the long hose come in the package? What about the SPG?

And my final question ... which is the primary? The long hose right? And where does that Go? On the left or right valve? Where do the other lp hoses go? The wing inflation, the dry suit?

Sorry if the amount of questions makes me look a bit of a :dork2: ... but I'd love to hear your opinions and they'd be of big help to me :D

Thanks in advance,
Snow

Since you already have the H system you might as well finish off with it. Get the Evolve 60 for doubles, of course depending on the size of the tanks. You might go with the 40 evolve. For your regs go with the apex tek3. Great regs, very dependable and are great for warm or cold water. Best of luck to you.

The GUE website has photos of the standard hogarthian routing for doubles; you might want to check with your future tech instructor to see if he/she teaches that system.

I don't know much about apeks regulators, but I seem to have read that the models are pretty similar. You do need two firsts and two seconds. It's nice to have an adjustable 2nd for your alternate IMO because you can close it down when not in use and easily open it up during air shares.

Getting back to the hogarthian set up for manifolded doubles, on the right post goes the long hose primary and inflator hose. On the left goes the SPG, dry suit inflator, and alternate.

Here' a page on the UTD site regarding regulators for doubles.

To answer you question directly, you will need 2 first stages and 2 second stages. The long hose does not come with traditional retail packages of regulators. The SPG is sold separately as well. That said, there are online stores that will sell you the entire set-up: 2 regulators (1st and 2nd), long hose, and SPG. For example, DiveSport's ScubaMax doubles package or TDL's Hog doubles package.

The long hose is your primary. This is on your right post with wing inflation. Your back-up regulator is on your left post, with SPG and drysuit inflation. This is standard placement for many training agencies.

As keithdiver suggested. Get the evolve 40 or 60lb (40 if you dive with drysuit and average to small build). I would get the MK17 & G250V DIN on the left post as backup (great reliable cold water setup) with necklace. MK25 & S600 DIN on right post with long hose (reliable high performance setup). If you want a cold water setup make both regs MK17/G250's. I just love SP. Any of the other regs mentioned are also great. Doubles would be 12L longs (steel) with DIN isolation manifold. You would also have to get doubles tank rings and extension bolts. SPG should be single steel without rubber boot with boltsnap on your left hip d-ring.

PS: Would also add the Halcyon Cinch. Easy to get in and out of your rig, and can be re-adjusted once submerged.

Oh that final question. Apeks is good. See what a dude called RJP says. And everyone else.

Link?

I am very pleased with my recent Apeks Tec 3 selection. Engineered specifically for tec doubles usage and bi-annual service which is nice with an expanded fleet of regs in use...

..... prices are righteous .....

You aren't old enough to use that term, are you? :D
Or did that word make a comeback?

??? I have used the term quite a lot. It fits my righteous personality! :rofl3: :rofl3: :rofl3:

But really, I think Hog regs breathe great, they are very simple to service and their service is awesome. I almost always recommend that people buy from advertisers as well. It's good to support those who make our play pen possible!
