Hi everybody, i am with BSAC and i`m an ocean diver, i was wondering what qualification can i dive with according to BSAC, can i dive with another Ocean diver or does it have to be a higher qualification??? thanks everyone

How old are you and where do you intend to dive?
What is your certifying agency?

He's 20 years old (that's in his profile).

He's certified through the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC).

I don't know their regulations, so I can't answer his questions though...

Here's a link to the BSAC site that tells you who you should dive with:

http://www.bsac.com/learn/brgrade1.htm

As an Ocean Diver:

The Ocean Diver training course concentrates on preparing you for this in the safety of a swimming pool or sheltered water and then introducing you to open water in a controlled and safe manner. This also gives you the opportunity to practice safety skills in the company of a qualified instructor or experienced diver.

Kinda new at this....you're right .....I guess I can figure out how to look this stuff up

Hi, my son and I are both training for ocean diver qualification and have been told by our club that we can dive together when qualified, either with the rest of the club , or on our own as a pair as long as we inform the club diving officer and get the dive plan approved. So I guess you can dive with an ocean diver or above. Also you can dive with an equivalent non bsac diver as long as s/he is qualified. Are you in a club? It's a good idea ,and you can talk to more experienced people about all your q's
hope this helps

Ron Brandt:
This is a Troll

BSAC boys(and girls) allways know where they stand. It is part of their training.
I know for sure that warm water PADI dives are generaly not welcome in their "club".

Ronj

Whoa there- hold on a minute! Padi divers are more than welcome in the club I am involved with, though they generally do a "conversion course" so they end up holding both qualifications. I guess some branches are not so friendly.
Cheers PwH

Well you posted the same thing on the official BSAC forum and received the official answers so not sure why you're posting the same here as you are going to get the same answer:

PADI AOW crosses over as roughly BSAC OD but that isnt the issue here.

You can dive with an ocean diver to conditions encountered in training under on-site supervision of a dive marshall with respect to site conditions, selection, plan AND where other divers are capable of providing assistance and rescue are available at the surface.

In short that means 2 ocean divers cant pair up and go do their own dive at their own dive site as the surface support and planning from a higher grade is absent.

Well you CAN go off and dive with whoever you want just as anyone else can but you would be outside the BSAC recommendations, it wouldnt be an official branch dive, the BSAC insurance (and probably any other) would be invalid and i know for a fact that inland sites wont allow 2 ODs to turn up and dive like that.

You can dive with a Sports diver or higher without these restrictions to within the limit of qualification.
