Consider purchasing a reg identical to your primary so you will be very familiar
with the use and machinations of both and will be able to swap using either.

If you were to get an octo I'd recommend going with the Mares SXS octo because it can be flipped in either direction which prevents your dive buddy from sucking in water because the octo was flipped upside down. And another reason why this is a good octo to get is that it is also better for colder water use because Mares regulators are usually designed for colder Waters.

But where is Minion_Diver going to find something that hasn't been invented yet

A brilliant reply and keep in mind to go diving heaps, stay fit, speak nicely to people, and be kind to your mum

Since this zombie thread has been revived and I'm not hijacking anyone's question, I have a question on this very topic.

I bought my reg about a dozen years ago when I was first certified. The dive shop knew I would be traveling (warm water only), so they sold an Aqualung first and second stage, a console and a Oceanic Slimline2 with an offset splitter hose to attach to the inflator on my BCD as the octo.

For a while now, I've been wondering if I should change out the Oceanic for another inline octo/inflator. A recent, somewhat botched service by a LDS has me thinking more about it.

I took my reg set in to the LDS before a trip to Cozumel. Silly me for not checking it at the time of pickup. Getting on the boat in Coz, the captain was asking me how to set up my reg with my BCD. I've gotten this question before, but inspection of the octo showed the splitter/offset was reinstalled backwards so the hose could not reach the inflator. The dive op was on the spot and the owner got it taken apart and reassembled quickly. I got the first dive in. Gearing up for the second dive, there was a decent pop at my first stage. It seems the LDS only hand tightened my hoses to the first stage. That was quickly solved and I only lost about 200 psi out of the tank.

During the rest of my time there, there as a very slight leak out of the Oceanic coming from the mouthpiece. It was not any cause of concern to me, but it has revived my thoughts of "upgrading". Partly due to prior concerns and partly due to the LDS being incompetent.

My first and second stages are Aqualung, as is my BCD. I am thinking of getting an Aqualung AirSource 3.

My one concern is reading about Aqualung's finacial stability/viability. Any thoughts on this octo?

Attached is a pic of my current SlimLine2 with splitter/offset.

I am starting to piece my scuba gear together and I am hoping to get all my equipment by the start of diving season next year. I plan on doing some Ocean, Lake and Quarry dives. I have already bought an Oceanic Alpha 8 Regulator, and was now wondering what type of Octo i should buy. I am looking at the Oceanic Alpha 8 Octo, and the Genesis Sidekick, which is an "in-line" octo. I am looking for some advice as to which one i should get as my first Octo.
I'm glad this thread was revived.
You should definitely look into getting an air mcdoodle and using that. It would mount nicely on your rebreather and would feed from your inflation bottle to allow airgon breaks during your deco.

This advice is only for @Minion_Diver. Others should seek out better solutions.
