Greetings,

2 Reasons in my case:

1. After spending 28 1/2 years in Emergency Services I needed an Adrenalin Rush after retiring!
2. Traveling with FRIENDS, good friends, to far away places & having fun both below & above water!

Also posted in another thread on the same subject:

I love spending time with my wife, she is a great dive buddy!
I dive because it is fun. When it ceases being fun, I’ll go back to playing golf.
We get to see and experience things that 99% of people never will.

All the reasons listed previously. But really, how can you describe to someone what it feels like to swim next to a shark larger that you (even if you know the chances of being harmed by said sand tiger is next to nil), or to get that perfect photo of an ascending sea turtle, or a minute juvenile trumpet fish. For me, it is getting to experience first hand what 99% of the population will only ever see on the television. My favorite quote was appreciated by a dear friend of ours and I always keep her in mind when diving - "Those who have never seen themselves surrounded on all sides by the sea can never possess an idea of the world and of their relation to it" - Goethe

Hmm, maybe the OP should experience it for themselves if they haven't already. That way they are 1 with their project... Yippee!

Proving to the ex hubby that "I Can Do It" and without him! Bwah ha ha

Did it work?;)

Honestly, it's mainly just to be a better diver. I started diving for work but most of my diving is intended to increase my skills and knowledge.

Hi,

I am a student in Stockholm and am currently doing research on the motivations of scuba diving. I was therefore wondering for which reasons you actually go to dive. Is it, for instance, being in a foreign environment and surrounded by nature, the freedom and partly lack of gravity or the diversity of fish under water? I would be very happy to get any information from you.

I am in it for the aquatic/marine life. I love the animals and especially the opportunity to interact with them.

Exploration... with 70% of earth covered in water... If I don't see it before I die I will have missed more than two-thirds of what life has to offer...

On top of that... I'm not getting a space shuttle ride in my lifetime... at least it doesn't seem likely right now.
