I am new at diving. I will be doing most of my diving in Lake Michigan in the Chicago area in the summer months. What Mil. would be best.
Thanks Greenone

7mm farmer john or 7mm semi dry. that's some pretty chilly water up there. you'd be more comfortable if you learned how to use a dry suit and invested in one of those.

Agreed, I dive a 7mm titanium for deep diving in Ky. over 30'. You would be best certified dry suit if your doing much divimg in cold water. Even 72 degree water will take it's toll after awhile..........

Just went diving yesterday in the mine pits east of us(Brainerd,Mn) At 60ft it was 53f. I was wearing my 7mil one piece. Although it wasn't that bad,we didn't stick around very long. Be careful when you buy gloves, hat, and boots. Make sure they are thick, and good quality. Also, when I bought my wetsuit, I went a little big so I could squeeze a 3-mil shorty underneath. I'm sure after diving cold water for a while, we will both want drysuits.(I spent all my $$ on my proton ice) no regrets, stay warm!!!

Well, I would assume that the water temp. there is about the same (roughly) as it is here in the PNW. I still dive in a 7mm wetsuit, but definetley not more then that. I think that you will find that in the winter months you will wish that you had gotten that dry suit for the SI's! Tends to get a little chilly when you're soaking wet and its snowing!

It was already mentioned to buy thick gloves, hood, etc... that will definetley aid in keeping you warmer!
