Well, I'll tell you what, Start out as a PADI OWD then take the Master SCUBA Diver Program. I promise you, you will not get it with just a credit card.
You still don't get it.

GA Under Water:
I'll agree to disagree, it just seems odd that folks claim that MSD requires no knowledge or training to aquire.

the same old folks claim it because it is true and demonstrable. A PADI rescue diver who has 5 specialties (who has already received a card for every class they took, need only fill out a form and send some money in order to be granted a "Master Scuba Diver" card. It is NOT required that they demonstrate any additional knowledge/skill either in or out of the water.
Personally, I think I have forgotten more than most ever learn about this sport. Fortunantly, I still have a library to look up anything I have forgotten.

That's interesting but it isn't saying much. BTW, I think eating fish is supposed to help your memory? LOL

Apparently not, I'll agree that you can upgrade your cert from Rescue to MSD by paying the cash, but you can't do it without training. You have to train in the Specialties and Rescue to be able to "just pay" to upgrade. So, the "no training" part is wrong.

AHHHH Ok so the general public believes that since there isn't a separate class, test, dive or such, then it is'nt a worthy certification.

I smell what you are cooking, but disagree with the thinking, How's that for a safe medium?

There is no such thing as a PADI "master Scuba Diver" program! LOL, when we say that all that's required is a credit card, we mean it literally.

Ok incorrect word, "MASTER SCUBA DIVER Challenge"

Go into your PADI shop and ask to be a Master SCUBA Diver, they can walk you through the paces :) And all your work has to be verified and signed off on. So it does at least require an Instructor's participation.

::Edit::

I know how much work and training I had to go through to become eligable to have the PADI MSD. It wasn't "just a credit card."

I don't know what the general public believes but as someone who has one of those cards laying around someplace and is a former PADI instructor (oops "Master Scuba Diver Trainer), it's a fair representation of what I believe.

I can't do that. I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face.:D

They will charge you for 5 specialty cards and you will have to do the dives and do some knowledge reviews.

They will then ask for some extra cash and order you a Master Scuba Diver card.

To make it easy, the will probably lump all the costs into one big lump sum.

Tigerman:
Im getting pretty tired of certain people that assume that if you train with whichever agency youre not going to learn crap and you wont know what a good diver is because you never saw one Im starting to get sick. Some people sound like the only good divers around are themselves and everyone else is worthless because either theire too young, theire too old, theyve got too few dives, theire certified with the wrong agency or whatever... :l:

Yep!!!
