I'd like to know what folks have for their Winter diving kits (excluding dry suits). I currently have a 3mm jacket/john, 5mm boots, 5mm hood, plain gloves. I'm thinking of adding a hooded vest, and possibly a jumpsuit.

I have a 5mm merino suit, 5mm dry-ish gloves, 6mm boots, 5mm hood

My hood is a Henderson gold core, which I love, but I might upgrade to the dry hood that goes w/ my suit.

5mm wetsuit, just like any other time ;) Its not like the water gets any colder/warmer.

If I'm diving the Gulf, I'll wear my warm water gloves and 2.5/0.5mm hoodvest.

An Akona 6.5mm John/Jacket, 5mm hood, 5mm golves, 5mm rock boots. Have done several 45 minute dives in 52 degree water and the only thing that ever gets cold is my lips. I require around 35 lbs of weight to dive this setup but i'd rather be comfortable and heavy than light and cold.

Oh, I'm a cold water wimp. I dive a 7mm jumpsuit (fav brands are Xcell, Bare, Scubapro), 7mm hood and 7mm boots year round for local diving (Augusta, GA) . For winter I add a hooded vest and thicker gloves (5-7mm henderson hyperstretch). If it ain't 98.6 degrees, you are losing body heat and consuming more air...

By the way, the hooded vest, 7mm combo works for me down to about 45 degrees for a 45 min dive.

I prefer my WaterProof Brand Dry Suit but for wet I go with my 5mm Henderson Gold Core with my 3mm GC hooded vest. The 5mm Gold Core is as warm as most 7mm suits amd you cant go wrong with a hooded vest.

Last winter, I dove with a 7mm wetsuit, 5mm booties, 3mm gloves, and a 6.5mm hood....my dives lasted about 20 min before I started to shiver! I don't think there's enough neoprene in the world to keep me warm in the winter...

I did try a hooded vest, but found it to be pretty uncomfortable to get in and out of, even with the zipper on the front.

This year, I've got a drysuit...yippee! :D

All neoprene is Not created equal, just because it is 7mm dosen't make it the warmest. It's the way the suit is put together.
The Henderson Gold Core seams are glued and sewed so water dosen't pass through.
You get what you pay for and don't get the super stretch material just because it is easy to get on, if it's easy to get on then it is easy for water to get in through out the dive.

Brrrrrrrr this thread is making my timbers shiver. Should some dry suit bandit steal my stuff, I would clamber my way in an old 7mill Action Plus, or 5mill Henderson's - or better get, settle for my warm Gortex undies keeping me toasty up in the tree stand deer hunting.

Dive safe, Dive Warm!
