Hi,
I found this on a dive last week and although it looks anenome like I haven't seen one like it before. It was on it's own out in the gravel happily sweeping tentacles about for food.
Can anyone tell me what it is exactly?

Thanks

Yay my first post. First off, thats a really cool picture. I've seen quite a few of those or something that looks a lot like that here in California and I believe its a burrowing anemone. A burrowing anemone isn't a true anemone, it doesn't attach to hard surfaces. I don't know what species it is, though.

that is a squidgy gooey fishy thing that belongs to the looks like an anenome family

Nice photo

It appears to be a tube anemone, a cerianthid. Usually they prefer mud bottoms, so take it with a grain of salt. Where was it observed? What country?

Great picture.....

Yup it looks kinda like that but this one was closer to the ground. It was taken at Pulau Aur in Malaysia last weekend.

Thanks for the help on this

It is a tube anemone; usually feeds at night but can be seen out in the daytime if it's cloudy or under an overhang.....the prettiest one I've ever seen was in Malaysia....hot pink center with lime green tentacles. I'll try and find my photo of it and post it.

Thanks, I was away so didn't see the reply up until now.
Glad to know what it is at last
