Look, unless it's a Barramundi, Sweetlips, Bangaii Cardinalfish or some sort of deformed-looking scorpion, nobody cares about fish in Lembeh. I saw this one in the coral shallows. I only got a quick glimpse and a (bad) photo. I thought it had to be one of the larger wrasses (?) but cannot find it in my Fish ID book (Humann, Deloach). Is it perhaps a jivenile? I feel fairly certain that it is something common--am I going to slap my forehead with a mighty 'd'oh!" when someone tells me what it is?

Thanking the experts in advance...

Looks like Pseudanthias pleurotaenia
I've photographed in Bunaken 2006 & 2008

Kilili is correct. It is commonly known as the squarespot anthias or pink square anthias. Your picture is of a male; females are usually orange.

Wow...you guys are fast...and good! And here comes my "d'oh!" moment. There he is, right on page 143. I guess I don't think of anthias as being that large.

Thanks for your help!

Also I had it in my mind that I saw it in fairly shallow water, but I see that it is usually found below 25 m.
