I just don't log dives
On a recent trip to Cozumel, during a dive, we saw this large block of concrete with a bronze plaque fastened to the side. On the plaque was a picture of a couple of hardhat divers on either side of Christ. The concrete block was about five feet by five feet and about four feet tall. It appeared to be built as a base for some structure. I don't remember the dive site, but I think that it was around Palancar Caves or Bricks; however, I could be very wrong about this.

In any event, I was diving with my sons and grandson and we were having a wonderful time. After the dive, we asked the DM guide, but he did not know anything about it. We also assumed that it would be easy to Google info, but again, no. We have since named the structure "Scuba Jesus".

Does anybody know anything about this or its history? - Thanks

So did the cross come off?

I wish Cozumel had a spot for eternal reefs. I've thought about doing a reef ball with my son's ashes but would love it if it was somewhere I could easily dive. I assume memorials like this are unauthorized...

It was at Palancar Horseshoe. Not really that visible...

Yes...the cross appears to be gone.

@Skittl1321, I have seen this done in Key Largo. Really easy spot to dive with your son!

Did you see it recently? I tried to look at it back in May, and discovered what it's like to have a sergeant major fish attack. The little guy hit my dive computer strap, but I felt it. I must have jumped a little bit because the dive master was laughing through his reg when he saw it. The sergeant major must have had an egg clutch on the monument.

On the brass plaque for the Spiegel Grove in Key Largo they have nylon scrub brushes with holes and a rope tied to it so divers can clean the brass.
Just say'in.

Thanks for the share. The cross is not not he monument. It is only the monument and the brass plaque bolted on the side. I wondered what it was all about. Now I know.
