I can't afford a new motor so it is a MacGuyver situation. Already have the stern deck and poling platform off. Next up is replacing the steering and impeller.

But, the Yamaha 4 strokes are WAYYYY more reliable than the etec's in that horsepower range. I would have an etec in the 150 or better class, but it's a tossup with Yamaha 4 stroke. The Yamaha enduro and saltwater series are cheaper in Belize because some enterprising Yahama salesman sewed up the entire Caribbean with Yamaha dealers. Something about building all of the fishing co-ops, too.

Suzuki's are very popular here in Key West. A used Honda 4 stroke will be very reliable, too.

The carbureted two stroke Yamahas are popular here because Belize gas is dirty and sometimes with water in it due to the storage facilities in Belize City. It gives the fuel injected motors hell. Even Yamahas.

A lot of commercial guys tried ETEC, Suzuki and the 4 stroke Yamahas but many have switched back to the Saltwater, 200 HP, carbed 2 strokes. Honda is here but you don't see many. I know a resort owner who got twin...225s or 250s and wasn't happy. Might have been the injector problem.

I saw all this stuff about 4-stroke versus 2-stroke... I thought you guys were talking about motivating galley slaves in your personal triremes.
Ah shoot, I just realized this is 2013 AD, not BC.
