Whichever one you will carry on every dive. They're all good - including the cheap one I illustrated above, but only if you carry and use them.

I spoke with a local diver couple days ago who told me of she and her hubby surfacing 200 yards from a boat on their last trip. I nagged her about their need for these. She said they both had them - in their bags on the boat. :11:

I'd like to hear people's recommendations for semi-closed dsmb with OPV.what brand? where to get cheap?
thanks

My husband has a Zeagle, which is a semi-closed with OPV. He bought it directly from Zeagle, and it was somewhere around $45, which is significantly cheaper than the Halcyon. But I don't like it as well.

I always carry mine in my BP/W. It is a 6' Halcyon and built tough. I have deployed it from 15-20 and from as deep at 80'. It was pricey, but its durability and it having 52lbs of lift (great backup bouyancy if I every needed it) make it worth it. This is one thing you don't want to go "cheap" on.

I have the Zeagle Deluxe and one of Phil's $15 finger spools

Halcyon and Carter make the best, for the most money.

Nearly as good, for a LOT less, is the one from ScubaToys:

Add a cheap $15 finger spool from DiveSports (see the Hot Deals forum here on SB) and you're in business.

The easiest way to keep it is to attach it to your backplate (or whatever) with some bungie loops, or can can get fancier and attach it in a DiveRite quickdraw sleeve instead (see diveriteexpress.com).

my dive buddy just called me from scubatoys, she is picking me up one of the above orange/yellow ones from scubatoys They look to me like they have a good seam. The "cheap" ones tend to blow out at the top. I have two with duct tape on the top now...nothing like relaxing, holding your string and all of the sudden your sausage floats by you towards the bottom.
