The dgx600 is a great light and sold under various other names. The biggest upgrade to the light is to used better Lipo cells; e.g. Panasonic ones. The blue, chinese made, batteries standard with these lights are not very good and almost never exhibit the claimed capacity.

For ultimate cheapskates: Lerway 800lm Lumen CREE XML T6 LED Waterproof Underwater Diving High light Lamp 18650 Flashlight Torch - gopro -- they used to sell the 18650 version plus the battery plus a junk charger for about $8 back when the battery alone was around $5. Not anymore, it seems.

Fits in BCD pocket, bright enough for a backup, can't beat the price. (Assuming "beginner diver" means 40m max depth -- it's only rated to 50m so rec. use only.)

Wow! $7 for a light with a Cree emitter that is rated for just over 1000 lumens output! Heck, the batteries I have cost more each than this light.

I'm tempted to order a few just to scatter around my house, truck, car, motorcycles, office, etc..
