Tech diving does not enhance my maleness. I don't need Enzyte.
It is a convoluted definition for tech. But then again, I've never
done it underwater so I am open for changing my position on that.

I am at a loss for words.

Everyone seems to have their own definition for the
word. That certainly IS useless. There is those that
have decided to make the word useFUL. The definition
I have cited is very useful and to the point. The person
that came up with this definition was at conference of
other pros in the field and they all concurred it to be the
best. I agree.
Instead of just some vague term that is
only of use for marketing ploys it now is useful to those
out doing the activity. The definition is clear, concise,
and to the point. There is no guessing. Now isn't that
nice? But, alas, just like the term, 'recreational cave
diver', most will object to it because it takes away their
thought of being the macho 'cave explorer'.
Some folks want to think of themselves as tech divers
because they dive dry. Some want to think of themselves
as tech divers because they dive doubles. Some want to
think they are tech divers because they dive deeper than
130 ft. Not so. sorry. If your dive requires multiple gases
and stage switches,, it is technical.
Kal

Just who was the person that everyone agreed with. I've done technical dives without gas switching. 155 ft on heliotrox. 20 min bottom time with mandatory deco on backgas, 39 degree water temp. No switching, only one gas, but still well beyond recreational limits.

Busting rec limits makes it a tech dive huh? Going into deco
makes it a tech dive? Going into ice water conditions, that
makes it a tech dive? Or must it be all together before
it is a tech dive? What we are trying to do is : define
tec. For me what works best is a short, straight forward,
clear, concise answer. A line if you will, that when crossed
becomes tec and it is unmistakable. One good one, any overhead
environment. Another, multiple gases, with switches required. The
person that came up with the latter was my cave instructor and if
you want to know just PM me.

Why the secrecy? It is one persons opinion/definition and as such I see no need to have to PM. So which cave instructor has given that definition?

Tech [anything] = recreational [anything] + taken to the extreme that you could easily kill yourself.

It normally involves a lot more training.

It normally requires more expensive gear.

It normally has dangers not associated with the more popular common level.

It normally has a bunch of fanatics arguing about it over the internet.
