Hi Guys,

My dream is to be able to dive and see large pelagic creatures. I've been diving for a while and have never even seen a shark. I'd like to do a liveaboard to the Socorro Islands (Revillagigedo Archipelago), but January is the only time I can do it in the next few months.

Anyone gone diving here in and around January? Is there a lot of action at that time of the year?

I just don't want to pay up a lot and not be able to see lots of rays, sharks, and maybe humpback whales or whalesharks. I know it's always just left up to chance, but any thoughts on a January trip will help!

Good Day.You are going at the right time the best time to go is Jan to May.You will have to best chance to see Sharks and Giant Mantas. There is a %99 chance to see both. And your right about the money the trips cost from $3500 to $4000.00 but your in for the time of your life. That Trip is at the top of my wish list.I own Cabo Divers here in Cabo San Lucas for 15 years and have never had the chance to Dive there.
If you get the chance to Dive Cabo stop in and see us at the Tesoro Resort on the Marina.
or visit our site divingcabosanlucas.net

Aggressor still has the Back to School Special - $400 off if you book by Sept. 30th.

According to Solmar V's website that's the optimum time to go.
the Socorro Islands (correctly called The Revillagigedos Islands) are best November through May.
Except you may be too late for the whalesharks. However the 20' wide Manta's probably make up for that. :D
Whale sharks are a special treat at the islands, they find us in November/December and late April/May.

Rocio Del Mar is a newer option also in case you haven't seen them.
Humpback whales visit during the winter months of December through March. This is a splendid time to hear the sound of the singing mating male escorts underwater
Socorros are on my list also...

Solmar V is running "green boat special" for Jan. That includes free nitrox, room at a hotel the day before departure, upgrade to superior cabin if available, airport transfer. Might be a few other things as well. Water is starting to get chilly by the, I imagine low 60's but that is the time you will see the whales on the surface and if lucky diving. Sharks I would say are a given as well as Mantas and maybe dolphins. whales sharks not so likely (at that time of year).

I was their last year from Dec. 15 to 23 on the Nautilus Explorer. I saw countless sharks and Mantas. I was got to see my first whale shark. It was worth every penny spent. The big animal interaction was fantastic. Good Luck and enjoy.

Awesome! Thanks for all the tips, guys. I just saw this video of people on the Nautilus doing a nighttime snorkel with silkies!

www.marinevideo.eu - Night snorkling with silky sharks - Socorro (Mexico)

This looks amazing, but they don't have any January charters left. I will probably go with the Aggressor then and hope there's an opportunity to do a night snorkel like that.

HI THERE, MY NAME IS CARLOS BRETHERTON AND I HAVE BEEN A CERTIFIED DIVE MASTER FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS. I USE TO WORK AT CABO DIVERS THEN, AS I AM RIGHT NOW, BUT I ALSO WORKED ON THE SOLMAR V FOR 2 1/2 YEARS AND I DOVE SOCORRO ISLANDS FOR MANY TIMES. JANUARY AT THE ISLANDS IS ABOUT THE RIGHT TIME TO GO DIVING, THE LAST JANUARY I DOVE THERE I SAW TONS OF SHRKS, WHALE SHARKS, THREE OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME, GIANT MANTARAYS, DOLPHINS AND TONS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIG, MEDIUM AND SMALL FISH. I EVEN HAVE VHS VIDEOS OF THE DIVES AND BELEIVE ME THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN A GOOD DEEP SEA DIVE. IF YOU HAVE FURTHER QUESTIONS YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT carlosbretherton@hotmail.com or cdm54@hotmail.com I REALLY WISH YOU THE BEST AND ENJOY YOUR DIVING AT THE ARCHIPIELAGO DE REVILLAGIGEDO, IT MEANS YOU CAN EITHER DIVE AT SAN BENEDICTO ISLAND, ROCA PARTIDA, CLARION, SOCORRO MAIN ISLAND, THE BOILER, EL BAJO ETC. ETC. HAVE A GOOD ONE.
