Master divers can be members. $30 odd bucks
DM $62
Instructor more

The membership fee is low enough for me to consider it neglible when compared to the liability insurance. I included the liability insurance with the membership fee for this reason, though you are right Master divers do not have to carry the liability insurance.
Sorry for the confusion.

Huh? Master Divers can become PADI members?? That's news to me, could you provide a referece? I just checked in "Individual Membership Standards" in GS&P, where only DM, AI and the various instructor ratings were listed as the possible types of PADI members. As well as in the std. for Master Scuba Diver -- which doesn't mention anything either.

Are you not thinking about the "PADI Diving Society", perhaps, rather than "PADI"?

I also felt the person posting the original question was feeling his dues were high, as they might have been including the insurance into the fees as I was. To be an active instructor, you must carry the insurance.

More accurately: to be an active instructor, you must carry *a* professional liability insurrance. That can be the one PADI suggests, but you're free to pick your own as long as it conforms to the PADI requirements.

A PADI "Master Diver" (more correctly PADI Master Scuba Diver) who does not hold a professional rating cannot be a member of PADI. The Divemaster is the first level of membership, then Assistant Instructor, then Open Water Scuba Instructor. All other ratings, such as Master Scuba Diver Trainer, IDC Staff Instructor, Master Instructor, Course Director, EFR Instructor, etc. are ratings that are "add-ons" to the three membership levels.

There are application fees to initially join and then yearly renewal fees.

The confusion results for many because the Master Scuba Diver application fee is listed under "Membership Fees and Dues" in the PADI price list ($32). If you check the GS&P, you'll see the membership levels do not include the Master Scuba Diver.

The annual renewal fees are $160 for Instructor and $92.50 for AI and DM.

I don't understand if you now are an Instructor, you should understand and know where your yearly fees goes, that you learned during your Instructor Development Course!

I must have slept through that part. No, actually there were only two of us in my IDC. But I always wondered who actually owned all the shares, which someone posted here. Thanks.

For those of you who feel a need to bash PADI, or any other agency, please don't. Your posts have already been removed. Thanks in advance.

If you now are an Instructor your Course Director was crap! But I doubt that you are one with your attitude! Unfortunate we have to many Instructor wannabes that are disapointed at them selfs for their lack of knowledge and Inteligence! And thank god that these people never will qualify as PADI Instructors! :D :D

Well, sorry to disappoint you.....by the way, you should consider a spell check on your computer....even though you're full of knowledge and intelligence, though lacking in writing skills...though I guess you can figure out how to fill out a pic....but I did pass my IE with flying colors. (#462664) Missed only one question and was a star on the skills etc. But I don't seem to remember anything in the IDC, or candidate work book, about PADI's net worth etc. That's what I was asking.

I am proud of my English since it not my first language and if tu tiende Español y kan prata Svenska or understand what I just wrote you can call yourself intelligent and skill full to be able to Teach Diving in three different languages and be able to swap inbetween how you please! If you know only missed one question and passed your IE you have met an Examiner? Do you think he pays for his Flight and Hotel himself? Do you also beleive that all the PADI offices around the world are free and the office Staff are working for free as well? You don't have to be Einstein to understand that an Organization like PADI don't have share holders or Private owners that is rolling around in Hundred dollar notes!
PADI is the world’s largest recreational diving membership organization. The membership includes dive businesses, resort facilities, academic institutions, instructor trainers, dive educators. Just let me know and I can continue with a full lecture if you like?

PADI Worldwide is a privately held company, mostly owned by the (family of) Cronin, with some key employees (Drew Richardson, for example) also being among the (minor-share) owners.

Here you go Einstein. This was posted earlier. Look, I'm not putting PADI down. I think it's a great organization and am proud to have completed their IDC and IE. However, as demonstrated by your postings, it is a bit cloudy to many of us as to the structure, ownership, dividend payments etc. I was just curious about all this. You live in the Canary Islands? Obviously, island living hasn't mellowed you out yet. Perhaps a few more years.
