If you have a Ranger LTD, there is an optional zip-on pocket to hold a Spare Air or small Pony bottle underneath the wing. If not, check with Scott as I believe Zeagle also sells an add-on holder for a Pony that mounts directly to the Ranger - so no having to remove the Pony mount to change tanks.

Like you, I was taught the Buddy system during certification but one point to consider is that a newer insta-buddy might not have been. So they'll likely go for your primary in an emergency.

What I've done is decided to let them have it by routing my octo under my arm and into the right pocket on my Ranger. So I always know where it is.

I don't know if you travel by plane, but having to remove the valve on a Pony or Spare Air for TSA inspection has got to be a pain now.
