I did a search and found people to say that currents are bad, visibility is not the greatest. But could someone give me a comparable place to it? As I know it isn't Cozumel, but what would it be like - Jamaica? Punta Cana, Dominican Republic? Aruba? etc....any advice would be great. My fiance wants to go for a time share vacation, but I would rather go to a bigger dive destination. But if she gets her way (which happens - come on she's my love), what oculd I expect? THANKS!

I can't comment as I have never dove there. Is your friend a diver? What is she looking for? If only to lay in the sun and not move, acapulco is a good place... other than that.. not much there and the city itself is rather icky. Have been there many times and there are other places I much prefer. PM if you would like. :)

Never dove it either but I would be interested also in what is posted. I can get a relatives time share any time.

I have been there and I do agree with AmyJ, there isn't much to do, especially if you won't wander out on your own. The night cruise is a must do and if you fish there are several boats to go on...keep in mind we aren't talking bass and crappie here.

Oh, I forgot to mention. My fiance dives as well, she just lined this time share up thru a friend and was wondering what the dive sites are comparable to. As well, anything else in the area to see/do? Horseback riding? Clubs? Ruins?

um... not much. You can go into town... but it is your typical big city. Hard Rock Cafe, Burger King, and Dominos Pizza. Big and dirty. Not much close. You can take a day trip to Taxco (where they mine silver) which is interesting. But it is several hours drive each way (if I remember correctly... I was pregnant and not doing well that day... :) Oh.. you mention clubs... there are those. Acapulco is 'famous' for their discos. So... if you like that... (one night of that is enough for me) . Most of them don't open until about 9 or 10 at night and stay open until the sun comes up! :)

An evening cruise in the bay is nice. And they have the acapulco cliff divers. They are crazy... diving off this cliff into these rocks!! yikes I could hardly watch, but that is only about a 30 minute 'show'.

Um...I don't know. Not saying there are not things there, just haven't really found them and been there somewhat frequently. We usually just plan on laying by the pool and getting a good tan in Acapulco. I'm sure there is someone here who knows more about what is around...

But that is exactly the reason we haven't been back in a couple of years. Now, given the choice of using the time share in Acapulco, or Riviera Maya (EVERYTHING! to do), we just don't choose Acapulco. And it can get REALLY hot there. (We've even had temps in the 100s in January!)

I will be interested in seeing what others have to say ... I'd like to know what we've been missing. :)

A trip to the silver mine is a must and yes it is several hours away. The cliff divers are neat to see but something that I could have lived without. We booked a trip of the city through our hotel and it was pretty neat. I am thinking that is when we went out to the pyramids, now that was really cool.

Wish I could help... Don't have a clue about the diving there.... I searched the forums and heard that it is really not very good, but that's all I know. Hopefully SOMEONE has more concrete info for you...

Well we can go ahead and kill this thread. I cancelled the Acapulco search. Crappy diving and not much to do there...so we'll try somewhere else. Thanks everyone for your help.

the local diving is not 1st class ...... local dive trip operators want to run you across the bay and call it a trip .... bad .... this is the place I found the scuba tanks that hadn't been inspected or hydro in the past 10 years. On the other side of the coin the city is one great place to party in ..... they have "Saturday Night Fever" type disco clubs .... food is great and so is the shopping.......
