I am supposed to go on a cruise in the Caribbean next week, with plans of diving several times. The 10 day weather forecase says rain the whole time - every day. How can that be? It's not supposed to rain in paradise, and certainly not for 10 days straight.

And, at what point are dive trips cancelled? Just rain, or swells at sea? Lightening?

Lightening is certainly a show stopper, and swells if they are big enough. Rain is no problem. But viz could be. Ultimately they will make an on site, case by case decision I would guess. Good luck.

Rain every day doesn't usually mean rain all day. Storms come and go in the tropics, often in the span of 10-15 minutes.

I been on many dive boats during the rain. It's no big deal and makes no difference underwater. It usually takes very windy weather or lightning to cancel a dive excursion.

Have fun down there!

According to Joni Mitchell,

They paved it
put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot.

given the year of the song (1971) the hot spot she refers to is not a wifi hot spot but a disco...

Enjoy the trip and if you are going to be underwater it doesn't matter if it rains

heres a little tidbit.. i live in the caribbean an the weather forecast almost every single day says theres light and scatttered showers so do not worry and being on a dive boat in sum light rain doesnt affect anything just mite b a lil more wet dan normal.. also these showers last usually for a few mins so not anything to worry about... you'll definately have a gud time divin..also its the DRY season which means even more clear weather and hot days with little rain on the horizon

Weather forecasts for rain in the tropics don't mean that much anyway. It can call for rain everyday and not rain for a month....or vice verca...relax, go and enjoy your dives...

Many many moons ago when you referred to Mother Nature you knew who she was. In today’s more liberal society she is Mother Canscrew-Paradise Nature. :D

Don’t sweat it until you get there and see first hand. If it isn’t a Category storm no big deal. ;)

Yeh, I wouldn't trust the weather forecast for the subtropics. While mainland Florida might have heavy rains, the keys can have very little. Same goes with Cancun 2 years ago, while a hurricane pounded the US, we had a great time in Mexico... Despite the weather forecast for rain. Same with the Caribbeans in November - what the forecast said and what we experienced were day and night....

Now, not to say not to trust the forecast, talk to someone locally, and they will let you now how the real weather is.

Well put Gary,
This definately sums up the general attitude these days.

My personal favorite is when the touristy type first
discover the subtle difference between
a New York min. and a Mexican min.
Now I'll step off my soapbox and offer
the advise that was inquired.

Just go, and make it your mission
to have a good time,no matter what
happens or what the weather offers.
This usually works best for me when I go.

Remember that it wouldn't
be the paradise it is without
the weather that it has.

So just let God do his work,
and enjoy it's wonders.
