What would you like your dive club to do? What makes a good dive club?

thanks for your help!

A good dive club would have active divers who want to dive together enough to plan trips and then actually go on the trips. People who want to attend meetings and share experiences. A dive club where there is brisk discussion of topics and frequent interesting speakers and presentations.

A good dive club should cater to all interest levels and connect less experienced divers with those with loads of experience.

A cash bar helps too.

That’s actually a very good question … are you looking to join one or thinking to start one?

Here’s my take … a good dive club is one that …

- provides diving opportunities for all levels of divers
- promotes diver safety and education
- offers mentoring programs for new divers
- establishes positive relationships with local dive-related businesses
- encourages an inclusive, welcoming social atmosphere

A good dive club is one where more than just a tiny minority of members are willing to volunteer time and resources to make it work … where all members are encouraged to help plan and organize events, run for club offices (entrenched board officers tend to establish cliques), and participate in club activities.

A good dive club is one that has established itself around the principles of communication, organization, and inclusion.

You nailed it Charlie, especially the cash bar. A club is only as good as its members allow it to be. I belong to the Urge to Submerge club out of West Bend Wisconsin. Its an easy going friendly group. The opposite pole of the road bicycling club I belong to which has a serious jerk infestation. But thats another story.
