What do you use to organize computers, electronics, flashlights?

I'm using a hard-sided clamshell with foam to organize, store, and transport my computers, flashlights, batteries, compass, etc but it's crowded and frankly messy.

How do you organize your gear for storage and transport on day trips?

We have a few Mares regulator bags like the picture below. These came with small pouch that is semi-padded...I can fit my Suunto SK8 compass and my Suunto Vyper Air computer in the pouch....when traveling to/from dive sites, the pouch sits nested in the center of my coiled regulator hoses.

Batteries are packed in a small drybag with post-dive clothes and anything else I need/want to keep dry. We each dive with a pair of torches, which fit in our regulator bags as well.

When I dive with 2 reg sets (doubles, H-valve, single tank back mount + slung pony bottle), I pack the same but use a larger reg bag like this one:

A plastic fish crate, everything gets chucked in that. I don't use cameras so none of my kit is particularly fragile. Stuff my undersuit on top and nothing rattles round too badly. I carry everything to the boat in PVC caving bags.

Plastic storage crate. Available from many places … Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc. 19x13x11 … perfect size to fit under dive boat seats but large enough to hold all my gear. I mount, as do many, thick bungee loops to hold fins on the outside and it allows me to clip off lights and other items with bolt snaps on the inside.

I do use a separate, dedicated case for my Trimix analyzer, flow limiter, EANx analyzer and pressure gauge.

Not storage per se, but on a crowded dive deck I've found that a small 12L folding bucket (same footprint as a tank) off Amazon is super useful (filled with freshwater obviously). Serves as a private rinse tank (avoiding others' snotty masks or worse), and as a simple place to keep everything small organised during surface interval.

Going to be somewhat opinionated here but the basket is the polite and proficient way to dive on a day charter. The people who show up with big bags or multiple bags or cases quickly spill out of their two tank “footprint” and crowd others.

When I dry stuff out I hang it up but as soon as it’s dry it all goes back in the crate, ready for the next dive.

On the LOBs I use to frequent in the Red Sea, everybody took their big bag to their quarters, extracted their essentials and put them in the crate the LOB provided on the prep deck.

Crates are the answer.

I totally agree. In the last ten years there seems to have been a massive trend towards big crates and multiple bags/boxes. Most of which sit there empty for most of the time on the boat, getting in the way and then rattling round the deck if conditions are a bit lumpy. They are also an absolute ballache in the UK where boats often use old Victorian quays with vertical ladders from the quayside and the owners expect others to half kill themselves to help them load their crates.

Hypothetically, it would be very easy to place a foot in said inconsiderate, free-ranging crates and have a covert piss taking advantage of a pee-valve. Not that I would do that. That would be obnoxious and childish and passive-aggressive. Totally not something I have ever done.

I'm a crate guy too and agree anything more than that on a day boat is too much. I have a half dozen of these 12-inch , 21-pocket tool bags from Harbor Freight that I store stuff in. They are on sale every couple weeks for $5. I use them as reg bags, weight bags, whatever else bags. My wife and I each have one with our soft weights, computers, flashlights and a few other items in them. For shore diving, everything goes down to the beach. For boat diving we load our weights into weight pockets at the car, the flashlight comes out of its protective pocket and into the crate. Crate goes on the boat.
