Myself being an auto tech, the local tool Snap On distributor and parts stores carry a wide variety of nylon and brass "bore" cleaning brushes at minimal expense. Myself also being a total scuba rookie, I could not reply on their affects on scuba gear. The brushes are quite soft though and my estimate is that they would have neglegable impact on any chrome surface. Typical parts soaking agents though would not damage any metals excepting aluminum. Just throwing out suggestions!
