If you can, one of everything, you never know. If you can't do that at least have the following; o-rings, mask, reg, and a couple little tools. Be sure to take good care of your stuff by cleaning it well and always make sure it is in working order before you head off for a dive. This will cut down on things going wrong when you are at the dive site.

Outside of O-rings, most things can be fixed, temporarily at least, with a combination of rubber bands, cable ties and duct tape. Seriously.

While not exactly save-a-dive kit items, my most frequently used items have been

* snorkel keepers -- to help buddies and others tame their wild octos. They make a good, cheap, very reliable octo holder.

* boltsnaps and double enders

* little mini-ball compass I loan to buddies with rental gear that don't have a compass

* my spare dive computer, in a hose mounted boot, for the air-integrated computer owners that have forgotten to change out their computer battery.

* If you have a computer battery in your save-a-dive kit, then make sure that you also have the needed screwdriver.

* I have also often loaned out the two jewelers screwdrivers in my save-a-dive kit, as well as the tiny crescent wrench used for swapping around stuff on regs.
