I just don't log dives
  • The cost of flying and the services available to reach the final destination.
  • The cost of accommodation, and its vicinity to the dive outlet and marina.
  • Resolutions and correspondence received by prompt emails from the dive operator.
  • The cost per dive versus overall expenditure—hidden costs.
  • Restaurants, shopping, entertainment, natural wonders, and artifacts.
  • Wrecks, reefs, marine life, caves, depth, and location.
  • Personal safety, freedom and privacy.

  • Family facilities / activities as my child is still too young to dive...much to his dismay

It's really all about what is down there to see and explore.

I have zero desire to ever dive with a resort or operator so at the most I would be hiring a boat to drop me somewhere and swing on the hook for an hour. Much prefer to shore dive or take my own boat.

My dive buddies in Asia we share accommodation to keep costs down.
Apart from that I have no real budget when I do go diving. I get to fly to places in Asia many others wish they could dive at.

  • The cost of flying and the services available to reach the final destination - Most dive centres will pick up customers from the airport. I try to book direct flights in order to avoid complications with transfer of baggage on short layovers less than three hours.
  • The cost of accommodation, and its vicinity to the dive outlet and marina. - I prefer to stay at the dive centre if possible, much more relaxing and less hassle to go back to your room if you've forgotten something.
  • Resolutions and correspondence received by prompt emails from the dive operator. - Important, plus reputation of the dive op through past experience or from friends.
  • The cost per dive versus overall expenditure—hidden costs. - I don't really measure that to be honest. The cost per dive plus accommodation and food and overall transport is all that I need.
  • Restaurants, shopping, entertainment, natural wonders, and artifacts. - I'm there for the diving, other attractions are a plus if the weather is poor and diving cancelled.
  • Wrecks, reefs, marine life, caves, depth, and location - Well all of these are required in one way or another. My priority is generally specific marine life.
  • Personal safety, freedom and privacy. - Well I wouldn't be heading into a war zone or terrorist area. Freedom? Follow the countries laws and you'll have no issues.
