I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and humorous responses. Thank you also for the encouragement. It is much appreciated..

Engineering, the health care field, teaching, electronics

Macdonalds...that way you can order your Nitrox on the fly..;)

Just what exactly are you looking for. What are your skills, education etc..

You can work for a dive shop. Dive gear manufacture, or join the NAVY. Be all u can be. Learn to drive a boat and become a charter capatin. Work on the high seas for a live aboard operation. Sail the open seas. Be a galley chef, work for a resort, become a fisherman.

hmmm... well... you can go a few routes, basically

1. recreational instruction: you become an instructor and teach either through a shop or independently ... or you stay at the dive master level and work for instructors or a dive shop ... or you could end up at a dive resort ... can be fun, maybe boring after a while, pay's not too good

2. commercial diving: you can go to commercial diver school and work your butt off as a commercial diver doing nasty things in nasty places ... challenging stuff, but not exactly fun ... pays good

3. military diving: you have to join the military and try to get into their diving programs. it's not guaranteed. you can get to do odd things in dangerous places.

4. work for a dive shop: you'll be around diving people, and work with dive equipment. you probably won't make too much money, but can get some discounts.

5. open a dive shop: if you have the cash and the temperament, opening a dive shop might be a good idea. it's a tough business, and you can lose a lot of money ... but you could also make it a succesful shop ....

6. get a job with a gear manufacturer, not sure how that works. i imagine you are like a salesman going around to shops and shows and stuff...

teaching is definetly a good opption,

Take a good look at everyone you know making a living out of diving and ask yourself questions. What kind of house do they live in. What kind of car do they drive. How much leisure time outside of the dive biz do they have. What is the standard of living. How many times divorced?

I saw that you have a wife and 5 children. There are many dive jobs all over the world available for a young guy who wants to travel, see the world and make enough to survive while he's doing that.

Teaching diving for most of the people I know, is in addition to the "real" job.

Its very rewarding, and you get to be in the water, but don't count on buying groceries and gas!

5 Kids? Let's scratch diving off the list of career choices. How about Doctor, Lawyer, or dirty politician. Diving would make a great hobby, though. :D
